What are the basic principles that underlie feminist policy?
How can we promote the development of feminist policy?
Women and feminists are increasingly entering position of responsibility and power which enable them not only to participate in the formulation of policy, but to set it. Do they behave in ways that are different from men? This discussion forum focuses on defining and understanding the principles of feminist policy and process. We will address the following questions: What is feminist policy? How narrow or how broad is it, and should it be? Is it policy developed through feminist process, one that adheres to the priorities of feminist principles, one that addresses feminist issues of class, diversity, social inequality and empowerment, or all of the above?
Through this discussion, we hope to explore what principles, if any, are inherent in developing feminist policy, how to promote feminist policy-making, and in what areas. What are the basic principles that underlie feminist policy? For example, Can feminist policy be a way of looking at most policy issues? Is it possible to collaborate on feminist policy across constituencies, including non-feminist partners? What are the procedures and mechanisms necessary to develop broad, effective feminist policies?
